Virginia Senate Republicans Support Governor Youngkin’s Appeal of RGGI Ruling

Richmond, VA – The Virginia Senate Republican Caucus stands with Governor Glenn Youngkin in appealing the recent court ruling on the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). A judge ruled that only the General Assembly can withdraw Virginia from the program, but the Governor’s office intends to appeal.

“Make no mistake, RGGI is a tax on every family’s energy bill,” said Senate Republican Leader Ryan McDougle. “In these challenging economic times, we will continue to fight for Virginians’ financial security.”

“This decision does not take into account the economic impact of RGGI on Virginians,” said Senator Mark Obenshain, Chair of the Virginia Senate Republican Caucus. “We remain committed to supporting efforts to lower energy costs and ensure Virginia’s future is not dictated by an ineffective program. I do not believe that this decision will stand on appeal”

Let one thing be clear: Senate Republicans are committed to supporting efforts to lower costs and provide a better energy future for Virginians.
