Spanberger’s First Bill: A Partisan Gerrymander Power Grab
RICHMOND, VA – Governor Abigail Spanberger and Democrats are wasting no time proving their “affordability” pitch was a hoax. Instead of lowering costs for Virginia families, the first bill they are signing and ramming through Richmond is a partisan gerrymander, a backroom power grab designed to lock in more seats for Democrats.
“Spanberger ran as an affordability moderate, and her first action proved it was a con job,” said Senate Republican Leader Ryan T. McDougle. “Instead of cutting taxes or lowering costs on Virginians, she is signing a partisan gerrymander to grab power for more Democrats. Virginians voted to end this kind of backroom map making. Spanberger and her allies are doing it anyway, because their power comes first, not your paycheck.”
“While families are struggling with high prices, Democrats are focused on rigging the playing field,” said Senate Republican Caucus Chairman Mark Obenshain. “This is not leadership and it is not affordability. It is a political scheme that ignores Virginians and puts partisan control ahead of the cost of living.”
